The USS Hercules has passed over into the mirror universe. With an away team stranded on the ISS Aries, a Constitution-class starship from the mirror universe, and the Captain and Counselor taken hostage by members of the Terran Resistance who have somehow captured a pair of Romulan ships, the Hercules has retreated to a nebula where they can make necessary repairs to the weapons systems, warp drive, and transporters while hidden from any attack by their mirror counterparts or the Romulan ships that crossed over with them.

Nudara felt herself materialize and thought, "I was supposed to knock him out of the beam not get caught in it myself." Her mind scrambled through alternatives. They had obviously wanted the Captain, not her. She was extra baggage but whatever happened she had to keep them from injuring the Captain. He knew these people so he was their way back to the Hercules and then home.

When the beam stopped, she looked around. A very heavy feeling hit her. There was something here that she would remember for a very long time.

Havik looked up form he first of the newest wave of patients. Straightening up, he tapped a PADD clearing the woman for duty. She had only had a hairline fracture of her tibia, a quick fix, but it did prevent her form walking herself to Sickbay. Just over the top of The PADD, Havik saw wisps of a nebula. Taking a closer look, he saw that they had dropped out of warp and had apparently entered a nebula, presumably to initiate repairs. Wondering what the hell was going on up on the Bridge, he set the PADD back down on his desk and started on the severe burns that had just came in under the assistance of one of his teams he had sent out.

Over the next few hours, patients trickled in, and soon, once his staff had confirmed the locations of all the crew, Sickbay was buzzing with activity, making the work go all that much faster. In between patients, Havik thought about what to do once they had everybody stable. He had already left once with only his staff to look after the patients, and while they were competent, his staff were not the same as him personally being there. He decided to wait until everyone in his Sickbay had left before worrying out other departments, or the rest of the ship.

McKnight's first chance at command wasn't really going the way he wanted it to. He would have never imagined that the first time he took command, the captain was captured by Romulans and the XO was on a century old starship. John tried to keep his head clear, but he was still wondering if he had done the right thing. It was true that they were safer here in the nebula rather than being out there where anybody could be more than what them seem. This way, he at least knew that none of the bridge staff were their mirror counterparts. John hoped that the XO had gotten their message. Well since, they were in the nebula and were conducting repairs, John decided it that he will conduct a staff briefing very soon. McKnight walked over to his console and grabbed a PADD. He then entered some few notes while observing the actions of the bridge crew.

[Materializing in the Transporter Room]

Kramer materialized on the transporter pad of what appeared to be a Romulan Warbird. To his surprise, Counselor Bochema was with them...she had apparantly tried to save himfrom abduction.

"A nice try, Counselor, though it seems now you're stuck with me..." Kramer said with a half smile and a hint of humor.

"Shut up!" the mirror Robinson yelled as he left the room, undoubtedly to tell his leader that they had suceeded.

At this point, the mirror Devereux came over and began patting Kramer down, looking for the hand phaser he kept as a member of the bridge crew.

"Just what the hell happened to your head, anyway?" Kramer asked with heavy sarcasm.

"Huh? Shut..." Devereux said just as Kramer's knee went crashing into the mirror Devereux's midsection. As the mirror counterpart of Kramer's CEO went ceashing to the ground, Kramer grabbed Devereux's phaser...one of Romulan vintage...and pointed it at the bald, scarred man.

"Don't move." Kramer said, then turning to Counselor Bochema. "Go get on the transporter controls while I hold him." Kramer then sneered at the man lying on the floor, holding his stomach in pain, "My own Devereux would never had made such an amature mistake."

She quickly crossed the room to the controls and began searching for their ship on the sensors.

"No," she told the Captain, "But I bet this one wouldn't leave their Captain behind like the Hercules just did." She couldn't believe her eyes when a ship who's call beacon matched the Herc disappeared from sensors. "They are heading back to where we were before we got pulled into this universe. He turned in his seat and leaned forward, speaking as he did so, “Sir, we are blind out here, the good news is any ship coming to look for us will also be blind. I have an idea, if we have the time and resources on board we might be able to turn that into an advantage. I should be able to link a series of probes together, communications are not out, so we can link them to us, alerting us if anyone comes looking. If a ship enters and goes between any probes, breaking the signal, we would know about it. I should be able to set up a probe or two an hour, by myself. I am useless up here anyway with all the sensors out.” Vyxx looked at Lt McKnight waiting for his reply.

Sam ran her hand distractedly through her short hair as she looked up and replied to what Corrigan just told her. "The KLS Stablizer? How long?" she asked as she absently flipped the caliper in her hand.

Corrigan shrugged his shoulders, "Ten, maybe 12 hours."

Sam groaned at the response, although it was about what she expected. She sighed as she answered, "OK, have Williams and Bailey work on it. It's going to take another 15 hours or so to check all the relays and run a diagnostic. Then we'll doublecheck the alignment of the injectors and dilithium and, knock on wood," she said as she playfully tapped Corrigan's head," we should be good to go with the engines."

"Hey," Corrigan said as he vainly attempted to get out of the way of Sam's knock, but he grinned, not taking offense. "The transporters should be fixed before then, as should the shields," he said even though he knew Sam already was aware of this. "How about the weapon systems?"

Sam shook her head, "I haven't heard from tactical yet, not on a status or for help so I guess they have that under control." Sam put her caliper down as she placed her hands on her knees and stood up. She groaned as she stretched. "Ugh, too long in one position. Two minutes for a cup of tea and then I'm back at it. I have this covered so why don't you help Williams and Bailey. I'm sure the captain wants engines online sooner rather than later."

Corrigan nodded. "Will do. Call if you need help." Corrigan moved over to where Williams and Bailey were getting their kits together. "Let's go. Fun-filled times ahead," he said as he walked past the pair.

Sam watched it all before she pulled a thermos out of her kit and poured some tea into the lid. She wrinkled her nose at the lukewarm liquid but drank it down anyway.

[McKnight, on the bridge]

McKnight was getting his notes ready for a upcoming staff meeting he was planning when Lieutenant Vyxx suggested an idea about using the probes as sensors. McKnight thought about the idea. 'I guess, it'll be a lot safer if we know ahead of time about another ship coming in,' thought McKnight.

John looked at Vyxx and said, "Sure, Lieutenant. Go ahead and it's actually a pretty good idea. Get some people to help you out, so that it will be finished faster."

McKnight took a deep breath and took another look at his staff meeting notes. 'What the heck am I planning?' thought John. 'A staff meeting will just waste time and resources. It'll probably be faster if I talk to each department individually.' John put the PADDs down on his console and checked the status of his own department. They were doing pretty going and his staff were currently checking the main computer. John quickly checked if power were sufficiently allocated and set his console to run a level 1 diagnostic test. 'There, two departments down and a few more to go' thought John. McKnight then walked over to Chad.

"Lieutenant, how long will it till we have weapons back up?" questioned McKnight.

Krame was still holding the mirror Devereux at bay with his phaser with one eye on the door when Bochema said, "I have it Sir. At least I hope I do."

[Once she reaches the transporter pad]

Kramer began to feel the tingling sensation of transport...and just as they began to dematerialize he saw the door open, however, he didn't see who came in, as the image of the Romulan transporter room was replaced with that of an old Constitution-class bridge...but then that vanished as well.

Kramer and Bochema materialized back on the Romulan transporter pad...this time surrounded by six armed guards of human and Vulcan ethnicity. Once they materialized, Kramer saw who was standing at the console...his mirror counterpart. The mirror Kramer spoke.

"Take the woman to the brig. Leave me with my counterpart from the ghost universe." the mirror Kramer said.

"Yes, my Lord." came the reply from one of the guards, a dark-skinned Vulcan.

With that, another of the grauds went up on the transporter pad and nudged Bochema with the butt of his phaser rifle. "Move it." he said firmly.

He didn't need to sleep, he just wanted to stop thinking for a bit. Looking aback down at the scattered PADDs on his desk he thought about what to do. All of the crew were accounted for, and all the injured were stable. His staff could take care of the half a dozen patients left. And Havik's curiosity was killing him. Desperately needing to know what was going on, and with no foreseeable danger coming form him leaving Sickbay, he got up and headed for the nearest Turbolift.

John waited for a report from his friend Chad, when the turbolift doors opened. He doctor came out of it and he seemed to be a little confused. Actually John didn't know how to describe the look on the doctor's face, but McKnight guessed that the doctor would have wanted to know what had happened.

"Excuse for a moment, Lieutenant," he said to Chad, "I'll give you some time to prepare your report. Don't make up stuff like you did during our shore leave." John winked at Chad as he turned around and walked to the doctor.

"Hello, doctor," greeted John. "What a surprise, I was going to drop by sickbay to let you know what was going on. Since you're here, it'll save me the walk. So far, this is only on a need to know basis. I don't what the crew to think that the person in charage is the same exact person that was classified crazy a few hours ago. Anyway, the captain and the counselor was taken hostage by the mirror counterparts of this world. I ordered to move the ship out of safety, which is why we are currently here in the nebula. It is the best hiding place that we have available to us. Oh, that reminds me. What is the status of sickbay, doctor?" asked John.

He needed to get an overview of how the ship was doing and how long repairs will take. After McKnight gets his report from the doctor, he will get a report from engineering as well as from tactical and flight control. John was hesitate to use the comm system because anybody on the ship could be a mirror counterpart that was placed here when the captain transported aboard. 'Oh, shoot. Why didn't I think of that before?' thought John. The doctor standing in front of him could also be a mirror counterpart. The only people that John could trust right now was Lieutenant Vyxx, Iza, and the FCO. However, as soon as Vyxx leaves the bridge, he would not be able to trust him either. Unless, John coded a special comm signal and gives it to Vyxx, Iza, and the FCO, but he can't do it with the doctor in front of him and Vyxx could be leaving any minute. John could give the doctor any indication that McKnight could trust anybody other than the bridge crew. 'Being in command is hard,' thought John, 'So many decisions.'

Raising an eyebrow, Havik thought for a minute. Though he did not agree with the decisions made by Mr. McKnight, it was a little late to do anything about it. All they could do was formulate plans for the future. That, and the fact that Havik was out ranked by him, made him hold his tongue. After careful consideration, Havik started, "To answer your question, Sickbay is in working order. I have the entire crew either fixed up and back on duty or stabilized in Sickbay. Now, to pose my own questions. You have explained the Captain's absence, but where is the XO, and his away team? And what was the status of the two remaining Warbirds who came though the anomaly with us, for I assume that the other two ships who were waiting for us were occupied by the Mirror counterparts of our universe?" Something like this would be better if he had an engineer or two, but he assumed they were all busy repairing the damage to the ship. He was reluctant to ask for someone to be pulled away from that when his idea might not even be feasible. He noticed the doctor enter the bridge and start talking with McKnight.

Vyxx headed towards the turbolift, and left the bridge, heading for his lab. He would have to do a quick review of his science team members and see if any of them had the qualifications to help, he should be able to find someone. “Deck four” Vyxx said once the doors closed.

‘Hmmm, I could use the class IV probes, have to see how many we have. They could be set up to emit a tachyon particle beam. If can they be made to emit a wide beam, as opposed to just a single beam. If we can set the sensors to detect if the beam is broken, we know a ship entered the nebula.’ Vyxx continued his thinking as he exited the turbolift and headed to his lab.

[On the trnasporter pad in the Romulan transporter room]

Kramer heard the comment about going to the brig and erupted in anger. "No! She stays with me or I start shooting...starting with you." Kramer said, pointing the phaser at his counterpart.

Lord Kramer replied, but with a coolness to his voice. "You start shooting, or you'll both be dead in seconds. Furthermore, she goes to the brig or dies right now."

Lord Kramer looked at the mirror Devereux, who had recovered from Kramer's attack. "Take his phaser." Lord Kramer instructed. The mirror Devereux was hesitant, but Kramer prodded further. "Go ahead. I suspect he won't hurt you know...if I know myself at all." Lord Kramer said as a devilish grin spread across his face.

Devereux appraoched Kramer, but rather sheepishly. Kramer turned the phaser around in his hand, handing it to Devereux with the handle out. Devereux took it, then his mood changed totally. He went back to being the arrogant, aggressive person who had captured Kramer and the Counselor in an instant.

"Now," Lord Kramer began, "Follow my orders."

[Once the guards leave with Bochema, leaving Kramer, and the mirror Kramer and Devereux in the transporter room]

"Come down from there, I need to use the transporter." Lord Kramer said to Kramer. Kramer complied, not because he wanted to follow his counetrpart's orders but because he wanted to see what would happen next.

As soon as he stepped down, the mirror Robinson entered the room, who stepped on to the transporter pad, along with the mirror Devereux. Lord Kramer operated the controls, first beaming away Robinson, then Devereux, leaving Kramer and his counterpart alone.

"There, now..." Lord Kramer began, "They're off to command their ships. My little band of pirates has just completed taking those two Romulan ships you were so kind to bring over with you. Robinson will command the Bird of Prey while Devereux commands the warbird."

Kramer thought this curious...from what he had seen of this Devereux, he wouldn't put him in command of anything, let alone a powerful Warbird.

"I know what you're thinking," Lord Kramer began, "Why would I put such a bad officer in command of a Warbird? Because I can control him more. I'm sending Robinson and my cursed wife off to look for your ship. They're leaving now....oh, I don't suppose you know thay've abandoned you here? With any luck, perhaps your crew will do them in."

Kramer stood silently, knowing McKnight would be in command of his ship and wondering what was going to happen.

Lord Kramer spoke again. "Accompany me to the Bridge, would you?"

Nudara watched her Captain surrender his weapon. "No," she whispered, "We must get away from here."

The hands on her arms tightened then and began pushing her down the hall. She listened carefully to the sounds around her and watched the hall hoping to find a way to escape.

"You will not be here long." one of the guards said.

"You are right." Nudara answered indignantly, "I won't be."

The guard laughed and pushed through the brig door.

When the first guard pushed her through the door, he allowed his grip to slip. The Counselor knew that was her only chance. Cupping her hands together, she twisted and slammed her elbow into the man's neck. She heard the soft crunch as his throat was crushed.

A sharp pain jolted through her back from just between her shoulder blades. She had been too slow in turning to face the other guard. Hitting the floor on hands and knees, she took a deep breath against the pain. The second guard kicked her side and forced her into the cell.

"You stupid woman. You just signed your death sentence." he said glaring at her.

"Mapenzi sisipona," she muttered pushing herself to a standing position.

"What?" the man asked her, not understanding the phrase.

"We will live." she replied. "You will not."

The guard only shook his head as he drug his partner from the brig. Nudara glanced around. Seeing that she was alone, she laid down on the small bed. She grabbed her ribs and groaned. "That was stupid, Dari." she whispered, "The Captain's gonna kill you when he learns about that little stunt."

Chad was staring at his console and computing the necessary time and repairs that he needed to do. His friend John then walked up to him and ask him for a status report. Chad was about to reply when the doctor entered the bridge and John said, "Excuse for a moment, Lieutenant, I'll give you some time to prepare your report. Don't make up stuff like you did during our shore leave."

"Aye, aye captain," joked Chad. He watched John walk over to the doctor. Chad went back to staring at his console. Weapons and shields were a mess and it was going to take his department a while before everything was back up. He already had people working on the torpedos and the phaser array. The last time he checked it was going to take them at least a couple of hours before they were fully functional. Chad, himself was working on the shields and was trying to get the emitters back online from the bridge, but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. The computer reported that they were functional, but Chad had trouble accessing them. He guessed that he would probably have to send someone down there or he would have to go himself. Iza gathered all the necessary data to prepare his status report to John.

Far be it from him to question his superior officer about decisions already made, Havik replied, "Thank you, Sir. Is there anything you would have me do while we are in the nebula?"

The doctor seem sincere enough that John dismissed the idea that the doctor could be a mirror counterpart of himself, but John wasn't entirely sure yet, but he had a way to find out. "Doctor, what I'm about to ask next might be a little strange, but I want to make sure of something. What major thing happened to me before we crossed into this universe?"

John crossed his figers and hoped really hard that the doctor was not a mirror counterpart of himself.

[SO LtJg Vyxx, Science Lab]

Vyxx spent about ten minutes going over some info about what the ship had in stock as far as probes went. He didn’t think there would be enough time for a tachyon net as he was originally thinking. It would just take too long to set up the amount of probes he needed. He was also thinking about ways to defend the ship as well as early detection of someone. It made no use to be able to say a ship was approaching if they could do nothing about it. He had a nasty thought about what to do, but was not sure if McKnight would approve it. He figured, it would work as the early warning system, and if McKnight gave the ok, could be used as a defensive weapon as well. Vyxx made his decision, he walked over to the computer and punched in a few commands for the parts he would need. He would not even need help for what he was planning. Vyxx was in his element, he liked nothing better, except for maybe certain foods, than making something from something else.

About 40 minutes later, his first unit was ready. He ran it through some quick computer siulations, made some minor corrections and deemed it a success. He was very happy with himself and smiling ear to ear. He placed the unit on an anti-gravity sled and walked it to the closest transporter room.

Vyxx entered the transporter room and placed the box on the pad. He walked over to the crewman manning the console, who was gaping open mouthed, and ordered, “You are to transport this box exactly 100 miles dead ahead of the ship. Now!” Vyxx waited until his order was carried out and returned to his lab.

He quickly confirmed communication with the unit and ordered it to move to the position in which it could perform its mission. Once on station, and telemetry was still being received with no problems, he ordered it to start. He turned and started back for the bridge.

I have deployed modified self-replicating mines, at a safe distance, around the ship. The mines will be fully positioned within 30 minutes. I have altered them to detect and attach themselves to any solid metalic substance that does not maintain a constant distance from them, over a certain mass. I set the mass slightly less than a Romulan bird of prey. They are sending back a signal every ten seconds to a control relay and to us for redundancy. This gives us two advantages, they will move, and tell us they are moving if another ship enters the nebula. We will know the exact location of the ship. Secondly, they will attach themselves and replicate, hence spreading over the surface of a ship with enough time, and we control the detonation. All we have to do is send a signal to the mines or through the control relay for them to destruct and destroy whatever they found.” Vyxx stood there, staring down at McKnight, waiting for him to respond.

I have deployed modified self-replicating mines, at a safe distance, around the ship. The mines will be fully positioned within 30 minutes. "Very good, gentleman," said John to both of them. "I guess this is a good as time as any for a staff briefing. " In a way John kind of missed doing the hands-on work, but his job now was to delegate them and expects them to be done by the crew. Sometimes it got boring. "I meet you in the conference room in 10 minutes. Last one there is a Cardassian's dog." joked John. McKnight then turned walked towards his console to grab some of his notes. He then turned and face the rest of the bridge crew. "Lieutenant Iza, there's going to be a staff meeting in the conference room in 10 minutes. You can give me your status report there." John knew that he was forgetting someone and then it hit him. McKnight tapped his comm badge and said, "Lt. McKnight to Lt. [Heading to the Bridge with Lodr Kramer]

Kramer made his way to the Bridge of this Romulan Warbird with his counterpart in silence. People seemed to get out of his way when Lord Kramer made his way down the corridor, not unlike Kramer on the Hercules...but different in a way. These people were afraid, not moving out of respect of rank.

In all, Lord Kramer seemed to revel in it all...very much unlike Captain Kramer, who disliked and was uncomfortable with the reverance of command. Kramer saw many faces he recognized from his own ship, but many he did not. Everyone who saw him, however, seemed to stare, but then avert their eyes at the last second to avoid eye contact. When they stepped into the turbolift, Kramer finally asked a question.

"Back in the transporter room, you said, 'With any luck, ther Hercules will do your wife and Robinson in...' what does that mean?"

Lord Kramer chuckled. "I was merely being sarcastic...you, of all perople, should know that. T'Salle has tried to kill me three different times since we were married. Each time, she was trying to obtain command. As for Robinson, he's loyal to her. He only follows my orders because he has to. You'll understand all of this in due time. Why, was T'Salle different in your universe?" Lord Kramer concluded with a question.

Kramer didn't want to reveal too much information, so he lied. "If she exists in my universe, I've never crossed her path."

Lord Kramer must have knew he was witholding something, but didn't directly address it. "That would explain your reaction when she spoke with you over the comm, eh? Don't think I don't monitor her transmissions and have spies on her ship...I don't trust her as far as I can throw her, even though she's my wife."

This Kramer seemed to be more paranoid, Kramer thought as the Bridge doors opened, revealing the viewer showing a Romulan Warbird and Bird of Prey going to warp, undoubtedly to look for the vanished Hercules.

Lord Kramer spoke again. "An Antican commander I used to have would say, 'The hunt begins...'" he mused as he sat in the center seat, gesturing for Kramer to sit in the XO's slot. Kramer did, saying, "Kaanis."

"Yes." came the answer from Lord Kramer.

[On the Bridge, in the XO's seat]

Kramer sat silently, waiting for his counterpart to make the first move. Lord Kramer eventually did.

"Don't worry about your companion...she'll be fine. I wouldn't want to really harm any of wour people anyway...they're to valuable of assets." Lord Kramer said as he toggled a control, shifting the screen so that the ISS Aries was in view.

"What do you think of my old ship, eh? About a hundred years old, she is. I've fought in this revolt against the Klingons and Cardassians in it for years. Never made any progress, but stayed alive. Was a bee stinging a bull...a pinprick to the opposition. But now...I have a fleet." Lord Kramer said.

Kramer merely turned to listen...his counterpart had illusions of granduer.

Lord Kramer began again. "Awhile back, this Romulan ship and the one my wife is commanding just appeared on our sensors, hanging dead in space. We went to the scene...in this universe the Romulans have been quiet players for decades, we never see them. Anyway, we got there and the ships were hanging dead in space, so we took them."

"What happened to the crews?" Kramer asked.

"I took care of them." Lord Kramer said.

"You killed them." Kramer replied.

"I did what I had to do advance my cause. Over here, our kind are slaves. Earth is a wasteland, a dead planet. I beamed the crews into space. They didn't feel a thing, well, the ones I didn't put in an agony booth didn't feel a thing, anyway. They're all gone now, including the Romulans who came over with you. Had your overzealous away team not used my old ship to destroy one of the Romulan Birds of Prey, I'd have another ship in my arsenal now." Lord Kramer said.

"You're a murderer, no different than a dictator on Earth in the 1940s. Did you have a Hitler over here?" Kramer asked.

Lord Kramer didn't answer the question. "I did what was necessary! If you were over here, saw what they had done, you'd have done the same! Besides, I spared one of them. Rwhen, come here and let me introduce you to my shadow." Lord Kramer said.

From behind them, a female Romulan...the one who Bochema had identified as a Romulan spy from the real universe, came to face the Kramers.

"We've met, my Lord, though this is the first time in person." Rwhen said with a slight smile.

[Bochema, in the Lord's brig]

Nudara slowly paced the small brig cell. To the guard watchin her, she looked bored. On the contrary however, she was slowly doing a mental scan the walls, floor, and ceiling. If there was a way out, she had to find it. That was when she saw it. A crack in the wall just below the edge of her bed.

She stretched and laid down with her back to the guard. Her head was near the crack and she looked at it closely. It appeared that the panel had been broken at some point and hastily shoved back together.

The CNS reached a hand up and began running a finger nonchalantly down the wall. Within a minute, her finger was running the length of the crack. She pushed a little and felt the panel give slightly under pressure. She had no way of knowing yet what was behind that panel. But, she felt certain it would lead to a way out.

Pulling her hand back to her side, she began to cough. She tightened her stomach to make the cough deeper. Rolling over she looked up at the guard. "Water? Please?" she asked him.

He glared at her and shook his head no.

She forced herself to cough harder. "Please." she begged. "I don't think Kramer..." she coughed again, "would be happy if I choked to death."

She continued her coughing until the guard finally agreed and left to get her a drink. She watched the door carefully. When it closed and she was left alone, the coughing turned into a grin.

Vyxx took a seat at the table and waited for the rest of the crew to file in. After a few minutes, Vyxx felt the small device in his pocket start to vibrate. The box was to alert him, when he was away from his console, that the mines detected something. He stood and went over to the console in the room and brought up the info for the mine field. Five mines were moving, two had already attached to something. From the pattern it looked like the ship was moving perpendicular to the Hercules, they were safe from being discovered for a little while, or at least until the ship turned around on another leg of their search. Vyxx sent a brief command to the remaining mines to hold their position and wait for another contact. Vyxx thought with five mines, they should replicate and cover enough of the hull to completely destroy the ship in about an hour. Vyxx sent a command to the mines to stop relaying a constant stream of data. He did this as a precaution against them detecting the signal form the mine, Vyxx would have to prompt the mines for their location.

Vyxx hit his comm. badge, “Vyxx to McKnight, a ship has entered the mine field. It is moving off to our starboard, in what I would assume is a search pattern. Do you want us to wait in the conference room or come back to the bridge?”

John saw the Vyxx, Tor, and Iza filed into the turbolift that was heading for the conference room. McKnight wanted to join them in the same turbolift, but he couldn't. He had some things to finish up before he starts the meeting. John lingered around the bridge for a few more minutes taking note of who wasn't among their crew anymore. John sighed, the question 'what would the captain do' keep crossing through his mind. McKnight told himself to get a hold. 'You're the captain now, John,' he kept reminding himself. McKnight quickly fixed his composure and remained himself that a commanding officer should always look prepared for anything even though he doesn't feel the same way. John gathered his notes and headed for the turbolift, but he stopped dead in his tracks when a comm came from Vyxx.

"Vyxx to McKnight, a ship has entered the mine field. It is moving off to our starboard, in what I would assume is a search pattern. Do you want us to wait in the conference room or come back to the bridge?"

John was caught off surprise. He didn't expect them to find the Hercules so quickly. It was always in the back of John's mind that they were coming after them, but it never occurred to him that it was so soon. If it did, John would have never scheduled a staff meeting. McKnight tapped his comm badge, "Of course, I want you guys to come back to the bridge. We have work to do. Tell Iza and the doctor the same thing."

"Yellow alert," said John. He didn't want to charge weapons yet in case whoever is out there will pick up their signal. McKnight really hoped that Chad was able to get at least some weapons back online. John quickly formulated plans while he waited for the rest of the bridge crew to get up here.

"Bridge to Engineering. What is the status of the engines?" asked John.

Stron looked around, hoping someone else would answer the call from the bridge. She wasn't keen on being noticed and answering as the senior officer in engineering might just get her noticed. It was for this reason that Stron was still an ensign, although she graduated from the academy almost four years before.

The others in engineering, knowing who was in charge at the moment, continued with their repairs, and Stron grimaced as she tapped her commbadge. "Bridge, this is engineering," Stron's voice cracked just a bit as she spoke. "Lieutenant Guerin's not here right now. She's in a meeting in the conference room." As soon as the shuttle cleared the shields, Devereux cut all power. They drifted in towards the hull. A little too fast. "Hang on boys, I can't use the thrusters in case they pick us up. We're going to hit. Hard. Hopefully they'll think it's wreckage."

The shuttle bounced across the hull once before Devereux activated the docking clamp. The shuttle creaked but remained in place.
Devereux looked around the dark interior of the shuttle. Next to him was Commander Robinson. Aft of him was the Betazoid Security officer who had escorted Devereux to the shuttle bay. As they were now in a combat situation, Remy returned to being formal with Paul.

"Ok Sir, we had better check that our suits are sealed and that our phasers are charged." Devereux checked the suit seals on both Robinson & the Security officer. What was his name? Devereux knew it but couldn't recall it.
Next Devereux checked that the two pistol phasers all three of them had were fully charged, as well as the standard phaser they had brought with them to the Aries. "You OK Ensign...Hagen?" asked Devereux finally recalling his name.

"Right Commander we are all set." said Remy clipping an Engineering kit to the front of his space suit "What's the plan?"

"Ensign John Whitney reporting for duty, sir!" He said as he snapped so hard he heard his back crack.

"At ease Ensign, take this spanner" the officer said as he handed John a spanner, "Use this to get the relays ready so we can have warp capibility. Understood?" he asked as he handed John a PADD which listed which relays still needed to be fixed.

"Aye sir!" John said as left Engineering and headed to relay 145-alpha and began his work. John crawled into a jeffries tube near the relay 'These jeffries tube are a bit tight' he said as he began to feel clausterphobic.

Joh spotted the relay and began working. 'Hopefully this ship can replicate a good cup of Green Tea, i'm gonna need some after this.'

McKnight thought that the message from engineering was kind of strange. First of all, why couldn't this person tell John the status of the engines and second what meeting. Then it hit John. 'Oh, that meeting,' thought John. His mind was all over the place now that he didn't really know what to do. He told himself to calm down and remember all the things they taught back at the academy about basic command. John took a deep breath and slowly let it out.

"Acknowledged, I'll contact Lieutenant Guerin. Bridge out."

John was tempted to ask the ensign that responded about the status about the warp engines, but he decided against it. It would just waste time and Lieutenant Guerin probably knows a lot more about the status of the engines than the ensign.

"McKnight to Guerin. Slight change of plans. Every senior officer already knows what had happened in the last couple of hours except for you. Here's a short-hand version of it. The captain and the counselor were kidnapped by the Mirror counterparts of this universe and the CEO, XO, and TO are aboard a Constitution class starship. Hunter was the last soul on the Aries Bridge now. Knowing this he thought of himself as not very defensible. He moves around the Bridge looking for an operations console or something that looked like it might be able to implement security measures.

He knew he could not do much all by himself in such a large ship. So Hunter searched for away to divert power from all other uninhabited decks and non essential systems and made an attempt to fortify himself on the bridge with sealing the bulkheads and all know exits he could find.

{ If Hunter was able to fortify his position and lock it down }

"Well, if I do get boarded it should take them some time to break the doors down." With this said Tim went back over to the Science console and diverted all other available power to the sensors and directed his scans back at where the rift in their two universes has developed.

{ If data steams back from the Sensors }

Hunter begins the painstaking process of reviewing the incoming sensor logs. "God, I will never forsake my Science staff this is going to take time to investigate I sure could use some help."

{If some or none of the Conditions are successful }

"Well, I'm a sitting duck what do I do now. I suppose I should go down and see if this ship has working transporters maybe."

[SO LtJg Vyxx, Bridge]

Vyxx exited the turbolift and went straight for the science console. He had the mines give a quick update and gladly noted that the enemy ship still had not changed course. From the initial scans of the nebula, and the current speed of the ship, Vyxx determined they had about 30-45 minutes before the ship started its return sweep, directly towards the Hercules. That was plenty of time for the mines to cover a significant portion of the ship, probably enough to destroy it completely, or at the very least cause damage that would be irreparable out here in space, and need to be towed to a spacedock.

Vyxx turned and reported his findings to Lt McKnight, and then added, “Sir, keep in mind, we can’t just destroy that ship. We need to identify it first. For all we know, it could be the Constitution class looking for us and I really would like to avoid blowing up our away team. "My thoughts exactly," replied John. "I had no intention in destroying anything right now and no intention in contacting them right now. If the ship turns out to be the mirror counterparts, then they know exactly where we are. Vyxx, can we use a quantum interphasic confinement scanner to try and scan their ship in this nebula? Once we are able to scan the ship, we might have an idea of who is on that ship." John turned towards the doctor.

"You picked a great time to join us. In a nutshell, we have somehow travelled to the mirror universe. The chief is on an away mission to another vessel and the captain has been taken prisoner by mirror universe people." Sam paused a moment to let what she had just said sink in.

"Warp engines are offline and will be for approximately 15 more hours. That's including 10 hours to fix the KLS stabilizer and then an additional 5 to check all relays and run a diagnostic. The impulse engines are fine. Transporters are offline. Teams estimate those repairs will take another 7 hours. Shields are down, not that they'd do us a lot of good in this nebula, and should be repaired in 2 to 3 hours." Sam closed her eyes and grimaced, trying to remember if there was anything else.

Finally, she shook her head. "That should be it. Any questions?" Before Whitney could say anything, she continued. "Oh, and all systems are working at opposite polarity, as we are in the mirror universe." Sam then looked questioningly at Whitney.

Since their DNA would be the same, one person and their counterpart would be exactly the same except for anything that has happened to them during their lifetime. Thus, one would have to compare scans of the counterpart with that of the crew whom we have previously scanned. Any injuries that were never sustained by our Kramer, but instead by theirs, would show up. However, such detail is difficult to do with out sensors, unless I am mistaken." After making certain the guard was gone, Nudara knelt down next to her bed. She leaned forward then shoved her elbow into the cracked panel with every ounce of strength she could muster. The lower part of the panel fell neatly to the floor.

The Counselor smiled as she began to work the top portion loose. Pulling at the tubes in the small space, she removed enough of them to push the panel free on the other side.

"Yes!" she whispered. Rather than a jeffries tube, there was a small, darkened room. Pulling the remaining tubing out, she pushed her way through. Reaching back, Nudara wedged the top portion of broken panel back to it's place. There was no way to replace the bottom piece completely so she leaned it against the opening and hoped it couldn't be readily seen being so close to the bed.

She turned and found herself in a small storage room. After checking a few containers, she found food stuffs rather than any sort of weapon. Deciding to take her chances, the dark-haired woman stepped cautiously toward the door. When it opened, she stayed back and listened for footsteps.

Hearing none, she stepped into the hall and headed back toward the transporter room. She was nearly to their when voices echoed down the hall. Ducking into the nearest room, Nudara forced her breathing to slow and she waited for the voices to pass.

"Obviously, but that's no excuse for your not detecting it!" Lord Kramer screamed as he pulled his phaser, pointed it at the helmsman and fired it. The helmsman vaporized in the middle of the bridge. People at various stations stared at Lord Kramer, fearful that someday that would happen to them.

"What are you all looking at? Get back to work! Now!" Lord Kramer snapped as he sat back down.

"What was his name, anyway...Wallace, I think?" Kramer mumbled.

[In the Turbolift, en route to the agony booth]

Kramer had read about agony booths in command school. They were a torture device used in the Mirror Universe which inflicted pain on every cell in one's body. As he was thinking about this...though not really caring...something odd happened. The Romulan female Rwhen holstered her phaser and looked at Kramer.

Kramer looked back at her and made eye contact. She nodded, then lightly let her hand brush against his in an almost imperceptible way. She was trying to send a signal...but was afraid to speak out loud. They were likely being watched via camera. Kramer nodded back at her, hopefully confirming whatever signal she was trying to send. The lift stopped. Rwhen pulled out her phaser again, pointing it at Kramer. The doors opened and Kramer walked out into a cargo bay.

The bay was empty except for a cylinder in the middle and a control panel beside it. There were many chairs surrounding the booth, so that people could observe the torture.

[In the Agony Booth Cargo Bay]

Kramer walked across the room at Rwhen's prompting. They stopped at the agony boot, where she opened the door and gestured for him to get inside. Kramer did, not quite sure if he should trust her this much yet...

She shut the door, then walked over to the console. The entire agony booth looked out of place in the Romulan cargo bay...it had obviously been transplanted from the ISS Aries. Inside, Kramer noticed blood on the floor. There were hand and fingerprints on the glass, obviously from people touching it in pain.

Over at the console, Rwhen didn't activate the controls. Instead, she darted her head to the left and right, then stooped down, removing the console's panel.

She appeared again in a few seconds holding what looked like two or three isolinear chips. She put them in her pocket, then looked at Kramer again, trying to send a message. Kramer got it this time.

Rwhen powered up the console. Kramer stood silently as the light came on in the booth. Waiting, the door to the cargo bay opened, revealing Lord Kramer, who walked to the console.

"The device is ready, my Lord." Rwhen said, gesturing to the console.

"Excellent." Loed Kramer bagan, moving over to the booth to look at Kramer. Lord Kramer spoke again. "Cap'n Kramer. I think you'll like my technique. First I'll hit you with the most pain you've ever felt in your life. Then I'll lower the setting to that of a dull ache, where I'll leave it until you agree to my terms, go insane, or die. I don't particularly care which." Lord Kramer then walked back to the console.

"Just so you know, I had my universe's equivalent of your Counselor through this process not too long ago. It took her four days to die." Lord Kramer said with absolutely no remorse whatsoever.

With that, Lord Kramer toggled the controls...

"The plan gentlemen, is simple. We need to find a point on entry. There should be a docking ring somewhere near by... We find that, hotwire our way in, then we'll scan for the Captain and Counsellor. Once we've found them, we'll asses on site how best to perform a rescue. The last thing we need is to simply end up as hostages ourselves."

Paul stopped, trying to think back to all those Tactical Command lectures, ideas and theories that ha seemed so mundane back during his (brief, or so it felt at times like these) Command training.

"We'll then secure the transporter room and beam back the Aries. Once we've done that, it's the Captain's party."

When he was back in Engineering, he found a replicator there and ordered his favorite "Green Tea...Hot". He took the hot glass in his fresly healed hands and took a sip. 'Now this is Green Tea, and its hot!'. He put the cup back in and said "Recycle". As it recycled the Tea, the replicator sputtered a couple of times and the lights went dim. "Crap!" He hit it and the lights came back on. He got a glance from an Ensign working a few consoles away. John said "Get back to work!" in a harsh tone. ' I better get to work before I break something...'

He looked at the relay console and found which ones were not checked and put them in his PADD. He left throught the Jeffries tube to the relay which was two decks down.

Havik watched the OPS officer access the situation and then ask for input. Havik listened to the SO's brutally honest assertion of the situation, and then the OPS officer's retort. Havik admired him. Though he had made a mistake in coming to this nebula, he was still standing strong and doing his best to get them out. 'Plus, his shuttle idea is plausible, to a degree" Havik thought to himself. Then, the SO reminded them all of the mines attached to the enemies hull. Overall, though Mr. McKnight was doing as well as could be expected, the SO had won the argument in Havik's mind.

Having chosen his words, Havik said, "It seems that the Lieutenant has a point, Sir. We should be more concerned with defending ourselves, not setting up an offense. If we die, there is little hope for the Captain and Counselor. As far as a defense goes, I don't know how good powering down everything not necessary for repairs would be, but not moving most certainly would be beneficial. And before you start, Sir, on 'the best defense is a good offense', we have no way to do an offense without giving up on a defense. It is all or nothing, Sir." [McKnight, on the bridge]

McKnight was getting annoyed with Vyxx and in a way, he welcomed his objections. John didn't want a crew that was just a bunch of 'yes' men. "You are very well correct, Lieutenant, but that is what plan A is. We sit here and continue on with our repairs hoping they won't find us..." John paused as he saw Lieutenant Guerin step off the turbolift.

"Lieutenant," said McKnight as he nodded at her in acknowledgment. "We were just discussing possible backup plans," said McKnight to Lieutenant Guerin. John then turned to faced the crew in general, "So, this is what we have so far. Plan A, we site here and continue with our repairs and hope that we get weapons and shields back once they have located us, but that's basically all of our plans at this moment, but what if that doesn't work?" questioned John.

John had so many ideas flowing in and out of his brain that he didn't really know what to do. The idea that he had suggested before was one of his more 'crazy' ideas that he had came up with. "Okay, worst case scenario, they find us and they're not on our side. They then blow us up, which obviously is not a very good thing," continued McKnight as he tapped his finger on his chin. "Now, next possible case. The ship is on our side, but we won't know that unless we contact them. However, once we contact them, they will know our position and will know that we are in this nebula. The problem is that we do not know who they are without contacting them. Unless..." McKnight stopped as his idea came into full view, "Unless we can scatter the signal so they cannot triangulate on our signal." McKnight's thoughts were still scattered and he took a deep breath to drive home the point," Okay, how does this sound for a plan. We scatter the signal by whatever means that is available to us without directing more personnel than necessary and establish contact with the other ship. The most we could lose in this plan is that they know that we're inside the nebula. Seeing that they are searching the nebula, they probably know that we're in here."

McKnight waited a response from the bridge crew. He knew that he could just give the order to establish a scattered communication signal and the crew would probably follow his orders, but McKnight valued the input from the crew.

After hearing voices in the transporter room, Nudara moved on to the turbolift. She had no idea where the Captain was being held but she had to find him and a way off the ship.

She ordered the lift to the next level. When the door opened, she peeked out carefully to make certain there was nobody in the hall. The Counselor moved cautiously as she made her way from one doorway to another. When a familiar voice caught her ear, she hid.

Sure enough, the Captain's double passed by. Waiting until he disappeared through a doorway, Nudara stepped back into the hall. She got close enough to the door to listen but was careful not to trigger the auto-open sequence.

She could hear voices and wondered if her Captain was inside. Deciding to look for a weapon she turned...and went face first into a sharp pain. Not hearing the guard behind her, Bochema had turned directly into the swing of his disruptor. Catching her in the left eye, the woman fell to the floor.

As the pain carried her into unconsciousness, Nudara's last thought was "Nice move Dari. Nice move."

"Doctor, I know what is going on right now might be a lot to take in right now, but you and I are the only ones aboard this ship. We do not know the state the Hercules is in and we do not know if we will ever see the CO, XO,, or the Second Officer ever again. Any chance of that might rest in our hands. We need to stay calm and think rationally, so lets start with the basics."

The Lieutenant pauses for a few minutes to consider his thoughts and develop a plan. After a short while and in the midst of that time Tim had made several passes back and forth between the OPS Station and Science 1. "Okay here is what I want to see happen. I want you to come over to Science here and attempt to locate our away teams combadges. The XO, Deveruex, and the TO. If your successful monitor their life signs.

"Aye, Sir!" The Medical staffer replied.

Just then the sensors came back with some interesting readings. "This is odd I am detecting Federation signatures on that Romulan ship. Hey Doc what do you make of this." Hunter turned to the MO that was with him and asked his opinion.

"Well sure, it looks to me like those Nanites that we sent over to the Romulan ship on our side of the mirror." Hunter scratched his chin. "Hmm. Wow the Mirror Kramer sure acted quickly. Well I am going to try and contact the Hercules to give them an update. As for the Nanites lets keep them in mind. I might want to try and link to them if we can.

Hunter moves over to the Operations console and attempts to hack into alter the command codes, in case the 'Evil' Kramer tries to retain remote access. Then Tim checks to see if the Hercules com-array appears to be active so he can open a channel to them.

[In the Agony Booth]

With that, Lord Kramer toggled the controls...

...and Captain Kramer felt absolutely nothing, undoubtedly because Rwhen had pulled the isolinear chips that caused pain. She really was on his side.

Knowing, he was supposed to be feeling excruciating pain, Kramer balled his hands into fists and screwed his eyes shut. He doubled in the middle, slowly going to the floor of the device. He could hear Lord Kramer laugh in the background. The laugh got closer...Lord Kramer was coming to watch up close.

Kramer was all the way to the floor, now, curled up in a ball, still feeling no pain.

Lord Kramer said, "Turn it off, now!" to Rhwen. Captain Kramer began breating deeply, quickly as if he had just finished a workout.

Lord Kramer spoke again. "I have put many in that booth. I felt it myself, many years ago. However, I must say, I am proud that my double is handling the pain better than anyone I have dealt with. In fact..."

Lord Kramer cut of his words, leaning in close to look at Kramer. "This is impossible. The booth affects every function of the body. Even the lowest setting will cause a sweat to be broken in an instant. You, though, are bone dry. The only way that is even possible is if..."

Lord Kramer looked at Rwhen, knowing exactly what was going on. It was at that point that Kramer took his chance, kicking he door open from his seat on the floor. The door hit Lord Kramer in the side of the head, splitting it open and staggering him.

Kramer jumped from the booth and began punching his counterpart about the head, staggering him further. Rhwen jammed the lock on the cargo bay door so nobody could enter.

Recovering, Lord Kramer tackled Kramer, punching Captain Kramer several times. Kramer reached up and grabbed Lord Kramer by the throat, tossing him to the side.

Both men got up, and the fight resumed...

Paul nodded appreciatively as the airlock slid open. Drawing both phasers, he followed Devereux into the airlock, sealing it behind him. They were in the cramped, interior airlock. Turning to face the door, he

"I'll deal with this one if you don't mind..."

Stepping forward, he walked over to the door control panel. Pressing a button, a breathable atmosphere was pumped into the airlock. Pressing a second button, the door slid open.

Paul took off his helmet and took a few breaths of air. It felt good to be in a somewhat more natural environment than the stifling, cramped EVA suit. He turned back to his two accomplices. "An OPS background has its uses..."

Paul smiled quickly, before getting back to the task in hand.

"Right, first things first, we need to locate the Captain. Remy, can you scan for a Starfleet commbadge? If I remember correctly it should contain..."

Paul paused. The Starfleet survival manual had never particularly inspired him. It was at times like these he wished it had.

"A crystalline composite of silicon, beryllium..." Paul glanced at Remy. "You're the Engineer, you should know!"

[Bochema tossed back in the brig]

Nudara slowly gained consciousness. A sharp pain in her head kept her from opening her eyes at first. She could tell that she was being carried over someone's shoulder. By the feel of the clothing, she knew it was her guard from the brig. She forced her right eye open enough to look around. They were almost back to the brig. From what she could see, the two of them were alone.

Forcing all of her strength into one move, Nudara balled up her fists and plunged them into the small indention of the guard's back. As planned he dropped her. She hit the floor, rolled to her knees and tried to push herself up to run. A quick sound followed by an enormous pain in her legs told her that she'd been hit. She fell unceremoniously to the floor.

When the guard grabbed her by the front of the uniform, he laughed. "You just don't learn do you?" he asked then punched her hard enough for her neck to pop.

Nudara felt herself being dragged behind the guard. She no strength left to fight him. A few moments later, she was dropped into a new brig cell.

[Fighting with Lord Kramer around the agony booth]

Lord Kramer and Captain Kramer had been fighting for several minutes now. Rhwen had taken aim with her phaser several times, but the men were in such close proximity to each other that she couldn't stun one without hitting the other.

"You won't win..." Lord Kramer said between breaths. "Even if you win here, you'll never get away. My crew won't allow it."

Kramer said nothing, instead choosing to tackle his opponet and begin pummeling him again. Every time this happened, though, to either man, the other found a way out. As a result of their identities being the same, a fair fight between them would end in a draw.

Lord Kramer must have realized this, as he began to fight unfair. Picking up one of the chairs in the room, Lord Kramer broke it over Kramer's back. With a metal chair leg in hand, he began to hit Kramer with it about the back and side. Kramer fell to the floor, knowing that Lord Kramer would likely kill him now.

At that point, Kramer pulled himself back up and threw a chair between himself and Lord Kramer as an obstacle. Wild-eyed, Lord Kramer dodged it, swinging his chair-leg at Kramer again but missing. As they were in close proximity again, Kramer pulled the phaser from Lord Kramer's holster and pointed it at Lord Kramer, who stopped moving.

Lord Kramer lowered the chair leg and began to laugh. "You won't kill me, Billy. To do so would be to kill yourself." Lord Kramer smiled. "And you're too soft for that." he added.

"You're right." Kramer said, changing the setting on the phaser to medium stun and firing. The blast hit Lord Kramer, who fell in a heap to the floor with a surprised look on his face.

"Rwhen, help me switch our clothes...he'll be awake in a couple of minutes." Captain Kramer said.

Rwhen started to come over, but was gazing at the console. "I've just run a scan of the ship...was seeing if anyone was converging on our position because I jammed the lock. Nobody is, but there's now three new life signs on the ship...all from our universe from a look at the quantum signature." she said as she walked over and began to tug at Lord Kramer's boot.

"I don't think the crew has detected them yet, but they will." she concluded.

As she pulled off Lord Kramer's quasi-uniform, she mused to herself with a smile, "Second time I've done this today..."

Havik watched as the crew pondered their next move, but subconsciously, he was still stuck on the OPS officer's question about the mirror universe. It wasn't talked about in the Academy to any great degree, so if anything had been mentioned about biology in the mirror universe, which Havik doubted, he wouldn't have noted it out of sheer improbability of using it. Admitting defeat, he walked over to Science II, which was designed for basic medical use anyway, so he wasn't out of place, and pulled up all information on the mirror universe. Havik poured over it for a while before something caught his eye: quantum signatures. Turning to the OPS officer, Havik said, "Sir, perhaps you should look at this. I believe I have found a more plausible way for determining if one is from the mirror universe. If you still wish to pursue that plan, of course." He finished, looking at the OPS officer with an expression of curiosity.

[McKnight, on the bridge]

McKnight listened as the crew expressed their opinions. So far, it was still one to one. The doctor's phrase "the choice is yours, Sir" still echoed through his head. The doctor was right and ultimately the choice was his and it was him who had to live with that choice. Most command officers would probably be a lot quicker at making decisions that he would have been. 'No one said being in command was easy,' John said to himself.

John leaned against a console and tucked his arms into his chest. John was about to ask what the remaining officers thought of the plan when the doctor said, "Sir, perhaps you should look at this. I believe I have found a more plausible way for determining if one is from the mirror universe. If you still wish to pursue that plan, of course."

John was curious what the doctor had founded. McKnight leaned off the console and walked towards the doctor. A curious thought entered his head while walking. John wondered how his mirror counterpart would be like. He was probably a crazy man that licked a whole starship clean. John laughed to himself, but was careful not to show it. If someone saw him laughing for no reason, it would probably cause panic throughout the ship like it did to his department when they found out that he was crazy. Another thought also came into his consciousness, time was still a luxury they did not have. The longer they were in this nebula, the longer the captain and the other members of the away team was vulnerable.

"Pursue or not, I'm still curious," replied John. "Any little bit of information helps."

Vyxx kept his eyes on the incoming telemetry from the mines. Mentally plotting the position of the ship searching for them, against the Hercules position in the nebula. The other ship was nearing the edge of the nebula and would be turning soon. Would they pull a u-turn, and come back on a reverse course, in a standard back and forth type search? Are they moving in a spiral type search from the outside edges of the nebula in? If they did a standard back and forth search, chances are they would find the Herc on either this pass or definitely on the next. Time was running out. Vyxx estimated they had anywhere from 15-45 minutes before their hiding place was discovered.

With nothing to do except continue watching the console, and wait for Lt McKnight to make a decision, he reached towards the floor next to his console, and picked up his jar of nightworms and started to munch on them. At least he wouldn’t have to fight on an empty stomach.

Nudara laid on the cold floor of the brig and sighed. She had tried twice now to rescue her Captain and had failed miserably both times. Raising a shaking hand to her face, she began to check her injuries. Her left eye was swollen shut. The swelling spread to her temple and cheek. Her nose was broken from the guard's punch. She could feel her right cheek starting to swell as blood pooled to the area in a vain attempt to protect the injury. As the Counselor moved her hands slowly down, she found bruises on her arms and stomach.

"Those are from being rag-dolled back in here." she muttered to herself. Forcing her right eye open, Bochema grunted at being able to see her nose so clearly due to the swelling. She forced herself onto her side and then carefully sat up.

When the room stopped spinning, she looked around. On the other side of the force field stood her guard. He was glaring at her with a nearly sickening grin.

"So," she started, "Why don't you tell me your name?"

"Why?" he grunted back.

"That way I can watch out for you when I get back to my own universe." she said, her mouth feeling strange from the swelling in her face.

"The name's Jake." he said. "And that's all you will ever know."

"Sounds like a threat. You planning on killing me?" she asked then continued without waiting for an answer. "No, of course not. You would have killed me outside the cargo bay if I was yours to kill."

With that, Nudara laid back down.

"What are you doing?" he asked with another grunt.

"I am choosing to end our conversation and lie down. After all, you are not worth my time now are you?" she closed her eye and hoped that she was making him upset enough to make a mistake. His errors would be her only hope to get free again.

"T'Salle, I have something on short-range sensors." the mirror McKnight said.

T'Salle walked over, listening to the report.

"T'Salle, I've found a disturbance in the nebula. I can't confirm as to what it is because of the limited use of sensors in this mess. What I can say is that there is an area of the nebula which is displaced...sort of like when you drop a rock into a pool of water." mirror McKnight said.

"I understood without the school-age example," T'Salle said cooly, adding, "Continue."

"The size of the displacment, according to the Romulan memory banks on this vessell, is the same size as the Federation starship from the ghost universe we are seeking." McKnight concluded.

"Understood. Transmit those coordinates to the helm. Helm, when you recieve the set of coordinates OPS is sending you, take us to that location." T'Salle ordered.

Phasers were up to 90% and torpedos were around the same also. Chad directed some more personnel from security to weapons repairs. Iza then turned back to see where the bridge conservation had gone to. He still had faith that John would make a good command officer. McKnight was a little slow in getting used to things, but once he was there, there's no stopping him. Seeing that there was nothing he can add to the thought process, Iza turned back to his console.

'Finally, some good news,' thought McKnight as he tapped his comm badge, "Acknowledged, stand by. By the way, keep up the good work."

John was about to say something when Chad alerted him that weapons was back online. It seemed that they might have a chance after all. McKnight turned to the doctor and said, "Hold on a sec." He then faced Vyxx and said, "Lieutenant, can you locate the current position of the other ship relative to the Hercules." John replied to Lieutenant Iza, "Lieutenant, I still want us to be at yellow alert, but keep you finger on the red alert button. I have a feeling that things might get a little rough soon." He then turned back to the doctor and said, "What did you find, doc?"

John knew that since the weapons and engines were already repaired, plan A was trash now. "Second time I've done this today..." Kramer heard Rhwen say as he was replacing his pants with Lord Kramer's.

"What was that?" Kramer asked.

"How do you think I got him to trust me enough not to beam me into space with the rest of the crew?" she answered.

Kramer felt odd when she said this, as he and Lord Kramer were physically exactly alike. He also felt angry that the mirror Kramer would betray his wife...in his universe, T'Salle was gone. Here, his mirror counterpart took advantage of the fact she was alive and well.

"Did you learn anything else? And what's your story, anyway?" Kramer said as he pulled on Lord Kramer's boots.

"I've been an informant for the Federation for the past seven years. I knew about my government's attempt to tap into the mirror universe because of my former position with Romulan Intelligence. The Star Empire sees the mirror universe as an untapped resource. The Romulans here are still pretty much isolationists. My Romulans believe that if they were able to join forces with the Romulans here, they would be able to take both universes." she said, but Kramer interrupted.

"As far as I know, knowledge of the mirror universe was confined only to the Federation, and we kept it classified beyond belief. Hell, I only learned that it existed when I became an officer, and that's about all I know. Everyone hears rumors, though...and I'm guessing the Romulans didn't build a porthole over here based on a rumor." Kramer stated.

"You're right. I'm fairly certain the Empire has a highly placed spy within the Federation...I don't know who, though. It's a guess on my part. At any rate, the Romulan's plan was shot when they happened to cross over and your double here took the ships while they were powerless. From what I could tell, before he got lucky and had a Romulan fleet drop in his lap, he was pretty much a pirate...though he did some work for the Terran and Vulcan Resistance when it suited him. His crew hates him, his wife does as well...but he's got a grip on these people. You may have been better off in your own uniform. What are we going to do about the hair?" she concluded.

Kramer thought about this while looking down at his mirror counterpart, now dressed in a Starfleet uniform. The only noticible difference between he and Lord Kramer was the hair. His was cut in a short, military fashion while Lord Kramer kept a long clique of hair in the back. It was odd to see Lord Kramer lying there in his uniform, almost as if he was looking at himself.

Kramer got an idea. Pulling the large knife Lord Kramer kept on his weapons belt, Kramer reached down and cut off Kramer's clique. Now they looked identical. They were also both bloodied and bruised from the fight. "If anyone notices, we'll claim he pulled it out during the fight. Is there any hand shackles in here?" Kramer asked.

Rhwen looked around and came up with a set from under the console. Kramer put them on Lord Kramer, completing the switch. Hopefully anyone they encountered would believe he was Lord Kramer.

"Now what?" Rhwen asked.

"We've got to find Bochema...and the others." Kramer answered.

Martz put his hands in the air when the man in the E-Suit holding the phaser entered the room....but not before pressing the silent alert button.

Smart enough to not fight when he knew he would lose...(he was unarmed, Lord Kramer only let the trusted carry weapons)...Martz just waited silently for the security troops to arrive...

The man stunned him anyway, and Martz fell to the floor.

[In the cargo bay, looking at the console]

Rwhen was horrified by what she just saw on the console. "Captain Kramer, the silent alert was just sounded. It was set off in the transporter room." Rwhen said as she accessed the transporter room's system.

"It's your people...somebody has just locked in the coordinates for the Aries. We'd better get him woke up and moving." she said, indicating Lord Kramer.

"Right." Kramer said, moving towards his double. Kramer kicked the man about the legs. "Wake up...we're going to take a walk."

Lord Kramer stirred, then awoke, surprised to find himself shackled and in a Starfleet uniform. "What the...of course, that's exactly what I'd have done, but they'll never believe you."

Kramer pulled his mirror double to his feet and held him there, his own face just inches from Lord Kramer's. It was like looking in a mirror.

"This phaser is set to kill. You make too much noise, look the worng way, or just do anything I don't like and I'll kill you...then ther likely won't be any question of which is which." Captain Kramer hissed...it was the detached, 'evil' tone he used when addressing adversaries. It worked, as Lord Kramer shut up right then.

"Let's go." Captain Kramer said as he headed for the door, prodding Lord Kramer to move. Rhwen held up the rear, leaving the cargo bay last and walking just a step behind Captain Kramer...showing the deferance she would had it actually been Lord Kramer in those clothes.

"It's definately the Federation starship Hercules." McKnight said to T'Salle, who nodded in confirmation.

"Do they detect us?" she asked.

"Very likely. Also, there seems to be a power bulid-up of some sort on the hull of our ship, almost as if something is attached." McKnight reported.

"A tripwire, set by the Hercules?" T'Salle asked.

"Probably...but there's no telling unless we go out there and look." he answered.

"Noted." she answered simply.

A voice from Tactical spoke up next. "Regent T'Salle, shall I charge weapons?"

"No. If I want them, I will ask for them. Absolutely do not charge weapons until I give the order, understood?" T'Salle answered. The crewman nodded gravely.

"OPS, open a channel to the Hercules." T'Salle ordered.

"Aye...open." McKnight replied.

Checking his tricorder for the umpteenth time, Paul found himself practically on top of the Captain. Without warning the cargo bay doors opened, and out stepped Lord Kramer, holding the Captain prisoner and a Romulan female whom looked suspiciously familiar.

Paul ducked out of sight behind a pillar, until he was sure that the party had moved in the opposite direction. The Executive Officer closed his eyes and took several quiet breaths. It was now or never. Swinging out form behind the pillar, he levelled one phaser at Lord Kramer’s back, the other at the Romulan's.

Things were finally picking up speed on the bridge. John listened as the doctor told John about the quantum signatures. After the doctor was done, John replied, "Thanks doctor. That will come in handy. Work with Vyxx and see if you guys can develop a method to perform the scan. When we find the captain and the others, we will need to verify them."

McKnight was then inturrupted by Vyxx's report on the status of the other ship, "Sir, they have turned, and are on a direct intercept course for us. They will be here in under 2 minutes. Position is 34 degrees off our starboard bow, 2 degrees high, and approximately 50 million kilometers."

'That's not good,' thought John as he turned to faced the viewscreen. Right there on the viewscreen was the image of the Romulan Warbird. John was thinking of all the possible plans and all the things that could go wrong with them when he was distracted by somebody getting off the turbolift. McKnight turned and saw a person wearing an engineering uniform. "I'm Mr Whitney, what is needed sir?" said the engineer. John didn't remember somebody calling for an engineer, but maybe John just forgot about . Seeing that since he was on the bridge already, John decided to give him something to do.

"Ensign Whitney, get the engines ready in case we need to outrun them. You can use the engineering station on the bridge," said McKnight.

John took a deep breath. It seemed that they will have to contact the other ship whether they wanted to or not. McKnight turned to Iza and said, "Stay at Yellow alert until they charge weapons. Charge weapons as soon as they do, but don't fire until I give the order."

John turned back to face the screen and was about to open a channel to the other ship, but they beat him to it.

"USS Hercules, this is T'Salle of the Vulcan Resistance. Please respond."

John didn't know much about the Vulcan Resistance, but it would seem really rude if he did not respond. 'Maybe I could talk my way out of a fire fight. Yea right," thought John as he smiled to himself. McKnight opened the channel and took a deep breath. "T'Salle, this is Lt. Vyxx looked up from his console when the comm. from the Romulan warbird came over the speaker. This is it, he thought, we are officially out of time. Vyxx almost choked when he heard McKnights response, ‘How do you do?’ he thought to himself, he must be joking. This wasn’t some instructor he had back in the academy that he ran across in a bar, this was a Romulan, who was most likely going to attempt to destroy them. So much for a firm posture and trying to be on the same level with them. Vyxx had the brief thought that maybe the Klingon way of attaining command was not so bad after all. Vyxx also thought about just sending the command to detonate the mines and destroying the ship, but McKnight was still a superior officer. He would wait, for a little more.

He looked around the bridge, he glanced up at the Doctor, and thought he saw something on the Vulcan’s face, a brief flash of emotion. Maybe they were of the same mind. Vyxx decided that if he did decide to take command, the lynchpin would be the FCO. The CTO would side with McKnight, that’s all he had done so far. The EO was young, he would probably go with whomever came out on top. Maybe the Doc could declare McKnight insane. He did lick a console not long ago.

“They are still to far for a sensor reading. I am picking up nothing on them. I can’t determine if they have their weapons charged or not.” Vyxx unexpectedly snapped at McKnight.

Vyxx hastily composed a quick message for the doctor to see on the screen, ‘Doc, Is he sane enough to be in command? How do you do? We might be in trouble.’

[McKnight, on the bridge]

McKnight still wasn't entirely sure of how much the T'Salle and her crew had gotten out of the Romulans' database. He didn't know how much information the Romulans had on them. One thing John was pretty sure about was that the Romulans had at the very least crew bios of everyone in Starfleet, that was primary reason why John had used his real rank in his little introduction speech. He had though about saying that he was teh captain, but lying in using ended up in something bad. John only needed to stall the other ship until they got shields back up, which the EO stated that it will take at least 30 minutes.

Then he heard Vyxx snapped at him, "They are still to far for a sensor reading. I am picking up nothing on them. I can’t determine if they have their weapons charged or not" with the comm link still open. John gave quickly sent a text message to his console saying that if he ever snapped at him again especially with an open comm link, John will have him removed from the bridge.

John really hoped that T'Salle wouldn't assume anything from what Vyxx had said. The worst thing that they could assume is that the commanding officer had no control over the crew, which is bad enough. The truth was that John was really an inexperience commad officer, but he was adjusting quickly. The only way to learn was from experience itself. John quietly waited for T'Salle to respond. He really hoped that he could stall enough for engineering to get shields back up in time and he also hoped that nobody else will snap at him with an open comm link.

Devereux watched as the guard lost his temper and went to de-activate the forcefield. The second the field flared out of existance, Devereux stood out into plain view.
"Thanks for lowering the forcefield" said Remy as the guard turned to look at him, a gormless expression on his face "Who the F..." muttered the guard before Devereux drove him into the wall with twin stun beams.
Devereux leant over the prone body of the guard "Tut tut, Don't you know it's rude to use such language in front of a lady?"
Remy then turned to face the open cell to see how the mystery woman was, expecting to find a security officer.
"Counsellor" exclaimed Devereux running over "Are you alright? What are you doing here?" asked Remy as he stood beside her and checked her head wounds.

T'Salle cocked her head to the side in curiosity at the reply from the Hercules.

"T'Salle, this is Lt. John McKnight, acting commanding officer of the USS Hercules. How do you do?" the officer in yellow said over the viewer.

T'Salle decided not to address the 'how do you do' question and pressed on. She knew the Hercules' Captain...the counterpart of her husband...was on her husband's ship, but did not expect to find such a junior officer in command.

As she began to speak, she stopped, as she could hear the Klingon in the background say that he couldn't tell if her ship's weapons were charged. T'Salle addressed this first.

"Lieutenant McKnight, please be assured my ship's weapons are not charged. I wish to come aboard your ship for discussions." T'Salle omitted the words, 'regarding your surrender,' off on purpose, partly to send a message to the commander of the Hercules, and partly so those on her crew who were not completely loyal to her would not guess easily what she was attempting.

"Lieutenant McKnight, I promise allowing me to come over will be in the best interest for you, me, and the officers you are missing aboard your ship, including your Captain." T'Salle concluded.

She pushed herself carefully into a sitting position. She leaned back against the wall as the man turned to face her. Her swollen face was blurring her vision. The one eye that could open tried it's best to focus on the man approaching her. As he grew closer, Nudara recognized the Hercules CEO.

'Guess, she didn't fall for my how do you do thing,' thought John as he carefully thought about T'Salle's proposal. Something about the word 'discussions' did not sit right with John. There was something hidden behind her message, but John wasn't quite sure what it was. McKnight thought that letting T'Salle come about the Hercules was a lot bettr than a fire fight in which they would probably get destoryed since shields were not up yet. John also knew that he had the option of Vyxx's mines, but that again will be futile if the Hercules had no shields. 'Oh wells,' thought John, 'When worst comes to worst, I can also use her as a hostage or something.' John also thought about asking for the crew's suggestion, but that might send some kind of unwanted message to T'Salle and McKnight did not want to do that. He did have an idea in mind thought. John took a deep breath and replied, "T'Salle, I will grant you premission to come aboard under one condition, you move your ship out of weapons range and provide us with the coordinates as soon as you beam over."

John figured that if she complied, the Hercules will have an extra safety margin. McKnight waited for T'Salle to reply.

John was getting fed up with Vyxx snapping at him with the comm line open. First of all, he misunderstood what John meant and second of all Vyxx was assuming things about an enemy's ship. John wasn't sure what T'Salle will think of that so John decided that he will quickly end the conversion with her and let her beam over. McKnight tapped a few commands to send the coordinates for Transporter room 1 and he cut the comm link. John then turned to Iza, "I want security on every deck, but do not make it noticeable. I want you to come with me, but do not bring any weapons." McKnight then walked over to Vyxx.

"Lieutenant, you were out of line and it will be noted in my log. Your objections will also be noted. I have no time to deal with you now. Continue to work with the doctor on the quantum signatures." John hated talking to fellow crewmembers like this, but it was part of the job. McKnight turned and walked to the turbolift and before entering he said, "Lieutenant Guerin, you have the conn. [Iza, on the bridge]

Chad heard the order from John, "I want security on every deck, but do not make it noticeable. I want you to come with me, but do not bring any weapons."

"Aye, sir" replied Chad. He knew the logic behind John's reason for not letting T'Salle notice that security were carrying weapons even if she assumed they did. Chad typed a few commands to his department and placed sercuity on every deck. Iza then walked into the turbolift with John.

His friend then asked him, "So, how's my command capabilities?" Chad coughed and replied, "No comment, but you can do better. I know you can. Don't let the crew disrespect the chain of command. You're still thinking like an officer, not a commander. Give the orders and don't let other people question them." Chad then smiled and added, "sir."

[McKnight, walking to transporter room]

McKnight listened to Chad's comments and thought about them carefully. It was so hard to evaluate oneself's performance, but it becomes a little easier with comments from a friend. "No comment, but you can do better. I know you can. Don't let the crew disrespect the chain of command. You're still thinking like an officer, not a commander. Give the orders and don't let other people question them." Chad then smiled and added, "sir."

"True, true," responded John. It was true that John did ask a lot of opinions from the crew and he did kind of expected them to make decisions for him, but he is the commanding officer and everything decision should be made by him. John guessed that he just couldn't stand the blame if something went terribly wrong with one of his decisions. John sighed and replied, "Thanks for the comments, Chad. I needed it." He made a note to himself to be more confident in his decisions. The turbolift doors then opened and John stepped out.

Before stopping at the transporter room, John stopped and said to Chad, "Alert security that if they don't hear from us in like 5 minutes after we enter the transporter room, they have permission to come rushing in with weapons. I trust that T'Salle won't try anything, but just to be safe and just to be extra safe..." John walked over to a wall panel and accessed the specs on the transporter room. He alerted the chief that McKnight was setting up something, so that the chief will not stop what John is doing. McKnight tapped a few commands and programmed the computer to set up a forcefield around the transporter room once T'Salle has transported over.

John finished the commands and waited for Chad to alert the security team before entering the transporter room.

{Once Chad finishes}

John walked into the transporter room and nodded at the Chief operating the transporter console.

Chad listened to John's plan and responded, "I was thinking the same thing." He then tapped his comm badge and said, "Iza to Security Team 1"

"Security Team 1 here, sir." responded Chief Wiliam.

Chief Williams was one of the people that Chad trusted the most and was glad that he was the one who answered the comm. Chad continued by saying, "In a few minutes, Lieutenant McKnight and I will enter the transporter room. Once we're inside you will start the timer and once that timer reaches 5 minutes and you do not hear anything from either me or Lieutenant McKnight, you have my permission to come rushing in with all the fire power available."

"Acknowledged, sir. Weapons blazing, got that. Williams out."

With that out of the way, Chad turned to McKnight and followed him into the transporter room. He wasn't worried about T'Salle beaming in with weapons. Chad had some tricks up his sleeves that John didn't even know about. Some tricks he had learned from tactical training while others he had learned from pirates during shore leave. Either way, this was going to be interesting and fun.

T'Salle beams in, alone and unarmed. She is a small Vulcan woman, very graceful in her movements and facial expressions. She is dressed in a black, jumpsuit-type garmet. (Think T'Pol on Ent.) In some ways, she seems to act more like a human, though she is a full-blooded Vulcan.

For those crew members who have been in Kramer's quarters or ready room, she is exactly the same person seen in the painting on his quarters wall or the photo on his desk. However, there is one slight difference. In Kramer's universe, T'Salle died over 10 years ago, thus, this T'Salle looks 10 years older, which is not much for a Vulcan...but as she has spent most of her adult life fighting with the Terran and Vulcan Resistance movements, the years have not been as kind. She has a little bit of a hardened-look because of her hard life in the Mirror Universe.

[McKnight, in the Transporter Room]

John watched as the transporter came to life and T'Salle beamed over. This was actually the first time that John had seen T'Salle whom he knew so little about in both universes. John had heard bits and pieces about Captain Kramer's wife when he had served about the USS Shrike. However, even with the little information John had, he couldn't make any assumptions about this universe's T'Salle. Life could have impacted and changed someone's personality in a way that nobody could imagine.

John stood there until the transport was complete and didn't really know what would happen next. It was strange that T'Salle would want to talk to them when her people took over the Romulans' ships. Why not take over the Hercules? John was thinking about this the whole way from the bridge to the transporter room and he still wasn't sure what to make of it.

The traditional way was to greet the person and make introductions, but this was unusual circumstance. Even so, John had no idea what to say. He was inexperience with things like this, but ultimately he had to say something or else a awkward silence will prevail. McKnight decided that he will go for the traditional greeting and see what happens.

He cleared his throat and said, "Welcome aboard the Hercules, I presume that you are T'Salle. I'm Lieutenant McKnight and this is Lieutenant Iza. Now that the introductions are out of the way, I would like to know why you have decided to beam over and talk instead of blowing us to bits."

As soon as John finished saying that he thought, 'We need to work on your social skills.'

T'Salle materialized before Lieutenants McKnight and Iza. Stepping down from the pad, McKnight didn't seem to know what to say. In her universe, her McKnight was in no way ready for the responsibility of command, thus she imagined this McKnight was overwhelmed now.

He finally spoke. "Welcome aboard the Hercules, I presume that you are T'Salle. I'm Lieutenant McKnight and this is Lieutenant Iza. Now that the introductions are out of the way, I would like to know why you have decided to beam over and talk instead of blowing us to bits."

T'Salle appreciated his bluntness, but was apprehensive to speak in such an open area. Years of working in the resistance had caused her to be paranoid of everyone. "I will answer all of your questions, but not here. Please take me to Captain Kramer's ready room. If your Captain Kramer is anything like my husband, its the only room I trust will be secure on this ship for our conversation. Doubtful, I know, but I am in a position to trust nobody."

[Aboard the ISS Aries, Bridge]

It had taken the Lieutenant a great deal of time and effort to reconfigure the ISS Aries to communicate on a subspace radio frequency that would accept transmissions from the nanites.

Tim moved over to the Science station and preformed a few detailed sensor sweeps. After a few moments Hunter was able to determine that the Hercules was no longer within transporter range, debris in the area identified fragments of a shuttle from the Aries, but not enough to comprise of two of them so perhaps Robinson's team made it aboard after all.

More detailed scans suggested that an impulse trail matched that of the Hercules drive system. It disappeared from readable sensor range at the edge of a nearby nebula. It was likely to Hunter at this point that McKnight had taken her in the Nebula to hide. 'Good man John ... I just hope they're doing okay in there." Tim thought to himself. The MO was a bit occupied with scanning for away team life signs while Tim was still trying to find anything he could use to effect improvement of their overall situation.

The Operations console beeped at this time ... Lt. Hunter moved back over to the Aries OPS console to see what he had snagged. When he got to the console the data was confusing at first. Millions of individual encrypted communications signals where being received. It wasn't a lot of data just lots of transmissions, what is this ...

Closer examination revealed it to be a Federation transmission, but it was not the Hercules. One of the signals over all seemed to have the least random bits and even a few command protocols. Narrowing his signals priority to this one instance Tim was able to determine that it was the control module among the nanites they had sent over to one of the Warbirds from before.

"Doctor .... I think I just found our Trojan Horse. Our luck might be improving." With that Tim cleaned up the erratic signals and focused on the control module. After entering his personal security code he managed to gain full unrestricted access to the nanites....

Hunter, now with this new found advantage, began to plan his next move.

Sam brought her attention back to what was going on between the bridge officers when she heard Vyxx fairly snap at McKnight. “Great, first shift and things couldn’t be more far from ordinary,” she thought, hoping things wouldn’t escalate further. Sam wasn’t sure about T’Salle’s motives, but it wasn’t Sam’s place to question, either verbally or through her actions, McKnight’s authority. At least not unless he did something that would endanger the Hercules’ crew.

Sam’s eyes widened as Vyxx stood and confronted McKnight. Sam sighed in relief as McKnight addressed Vyxx calmly but almost choked when he announced she had the conn and then left to meet T`Salle. Sam replied with an automatic, “Aye, sir.” She then sent a message to Ensign Crow, the beta shift pilot, to report to the bridge. As Sam waited for Crow to arrive, she tapped her fingers nervously on the console, hoping nothing happened between now and the time McKnight returned to the bridge.

If she agreed, that showed that she really wanted to talk to them. If she didn't, then she didn't want to compromise her position enough to avoid a fight. It all came down to her answer, as he edged forward on the seat to hear better.

As Havik expected, she didn't comply and insisted on him trusting her. In addition to the fact that she would be a hostage of sorts, they were safe in that regard. Havik hoped that McKNight would agree, since T'Salle's logic was, as expected, impeccable. Just then, the SO stood up and pointed out a flaw in his suggested plan. Havik just managed to stifle a snigger at the SO's point, weapons range was most definitely father out that their transport capabilities. He mentally hit himself for not realizing this himself, though transporters and weapons were not his forte. Havik then watched as he repremanded the SO before, thankfully, inviting T'Salle over with the current conditions.

Then, after McKnight left the Bridge, Havik walked over to the SO and said, "Don't worry. You were absolutely right, and no, he isn't not doing the best job of commanding the ship. But we have no choice. If we have any intention of getting things done, we follow what he says, and get the Captain back. He'll have fun with him." With a small smile, Havik continued, "Now lets do something productive and get these sensors modified."

Since her request would not harm the crew or put the ship at risk, John decided to fulfill her request. However, he was hesitant to take the turbolift up to the bridge and walk past Vyxx. He might say something that John didn't want T'Salle to hear. McKnight was also hesitant to use the captain's ready room because he had never been in there without him before, but seeing as his choices were limited, John came up with a idea.

[McKnight, in the turbolift heading for the ready room with T'Salle]

McKnight wasn't much for small talk and T'Salle didn't really seem like the person that enjoyed small talk either, so John stayed quiet throughout the whole trip on the turbolift. He was just staring at his shoes the whole way.

John had always dreamed about command ever since his early days at the academy. Heck, almost every cadet did, but John would have never guessed in his entire life that it would be like this. His dream was turning into a nightmare. Things were all going differently than he had planned. Even so, in the back of John's mind there was still the passion of command. He just had to find a way to tap that passion and get over all the problems he had encountered so far. After this whole thing was over, he was looking forward to being an operations officer again. John was also looking forward to asking Captain Kramer how he dealt with the problems and responsibilities of command. That is if John didn't get court martial for anything he had done already. If he did, then his dream of command will be flushed down the toilet. Not a pretty picture. However, John had no doubt that they will be able to get the captain back in one piece. Besides, McKnight had so many questions to ask him.

When the turbolift doors opened, John stepped out first and as fast as he could without losing sight of T'Salle, John walked over to the captain's ready room. He hoped that T'Salle will follow him and enter the ready room before any of the bridge crew said anything. He did thought about taking T'Salle's by the hand and drag her into the ready room, but he thought better of it. It wouldn't be professional and T'Salle might take it in the wrong way. McKnight got to the ready room in a few seconds and waited outside the door. Once T'Salle got there, he walked in with her.

{Once T'Salle enters the ready room}
To break the silence, John decided to speak first. "So was Captain Kramer's ready room in your universe similar to this?"

Once that sentence left his mouth, John quickly regretted it. 'What kind of question was that?' thought John. To try to recover from it, John decided to do something. "Computer lock the doors and disable and communication from this room. Authorization McKnight-Omega-3." The computer did what he said and John stated, "There, now the room is secured and nobody will hear our conversation." John waited for a reply from T'Salle.

We can set the transporters up to read the quantum signatures as they beam over, with the normal medical scan that takes place. If they arrive by shuttle, we can easily get a medical tricorder to do it. There, problem solved. Keep in mind that there are differences in these people. The fact that they are our doubles means nothing. They live in a completely alien situation to ours. There are little similarities there, and each person would be very different from their counterpart. Even on Earth, be around a set of twins for any length of time and you can easily tell who is who. It would not take long for us to figure out an imposter was aboard. Just ask everyone something that only they know. The Captain will be easy, didn’t his wife die? Just ask him how and when, odds are that the mirror Kramer did not marry the same woman, and if he did, odds are astronomical that they would have died the same way, on the same respective dates.”

[Stepping out of the turbolift, on to the Bridge]

T'Salle stepped out of the Turbolift and on to the Bridge, taking in the entire scene. She sensed a feeling of discontent from the bridge crew, not because of her presence, but something else. Everyone was acting just as humans do after there has been a heated argument. At any rate, they were a crew without a Captain, and that had been her doing...

She looked at some of the faces. She recognized the person sitting at the helm...but was fairly certain that her countrpart in this universe had been killed. The Klingon was a surprise to her, in this universe they were the mortal enemies of the Terrans and Vulcans. Her husband would never have a Klingon on his bridge. And the Vulcan male...there was something about him that just seemed a little too emotional, part Romulan, perhaps? T'Salle kept quiet as McKnight showed her to the ready room.

{Once they step inside}

"So was Captain Kramer's ready room in your universe similar to this?" McKnight asked. He obviously felt bad about the statement, T'Salle realized, as his face gave away his feelings. Just like the McKnight in her universe.

"Computer lock the doors and disable and communication from this room. Authorization McKnight-Omega-3." McKnight said, adding, "There, now the room is secured and nobody will hear our conversation."

T'Salle did not reply immediately. Instead, she walked around the small room, looking at the items deposited in it. On the desk, ironically, was a model of a Constitution-class starship, identical to Lord Kramer's recently abandoned ship, the ISS Aries. The desk was a replica antique rolltop, the table also made of wood. What finally caught her attnetion was the photograph on the desk.

Sitting down at the desk, T'Salle picked up the photo. It was of her, with Kramer, about 10 years prior. They were standing in front of a large pine tree in the snow...she immediately knew where. "Home..." she said just under her breath. There was also one major difference in the photo from anything in her own past...in the photo, she was pregnant.

She decided to answer McKnight's question. "I sense you regret asking about this room. Please do not feel this way. Remember, I am a Vulcan, after all. As for the ready room, it is much different from what my husband has...but my husband is a different man than I married years ago. Perhaps at one time, this would have been accurate. But not now." T'Salle paused, looking at the picture again.

"Do I have a counterpart on this ship?" she asked, holding up the photo.

But there was also something to her composure that kind of felt peaceful. It seemed that the mirror universe didn't treat her very well.

John watched as T'Salle picked up a photo on the captain's desk. John had never seen the picture before either so he decided to walk and look over her shoulder. It was a picture of the captain and his wife. They seemed happy. T'Salle then answered his question about the room.

John just stood there and he imagined the picture slamming right into his stomach. Actually that was how he felt. He had no idea how to answer her question. John decided that the best way was to answer her question truthfully.

"To tell you the truth, " he began, but he just couldn't tell her that her counterpart was dead. John just decided that he will just answer her question and that's it. "no. Honestly, I don't really know that much about the captain or his family..." John took one more look at the picture and decided to go to a slightly different subject. He looked at T'Salle and asked, "Do I have a counterpart in your universe or is he probably dead because he asks the stupidest questions ever?" John guessed the latter part, but if his counterpart wasn't dead he would probably want to meet him. John walked and sat directly across from T'Salle.

"Do I have a counterpart in your universe or is he probably dead because he asks the stupidest questions ever?" McKnight asked.

T'Salle was sitting in the Captain's desk chair at this point. She briefly answered his question. "You do. He is over on my ship right now. He really is not much different from yourself."

T'Salle sat up straighter, the time for small talk was over...but she glanced at the photo one more time.

"I have come over her to ask your help in overthrowing my husband. Having a Romulan fleet drop in his lap has made him crazed and power hungry...even more so than before. He's acted as a pirate and part-time Resistance member up until this point. He did Resistance work when it suited him, generally because it led to some end he wished to achieve. Now...now he wants to lead the Resistance, which I think is just not in the Resistance's best interests. If my husband, Lord Kramer were to gain the leadership of the Terran Resistance...and was successful in liberating our people...we would be back to the days of the old Terran Empire. Help me, Lieutenant...you'll get the rest of your crew back in the process." T'Salle pleaded more than stated, despite her being a Vulcan.

John watched T'Salle's composure as she responded to his question. "You do. He is over on my ship right now. He really is not much different from yourself."

For some odd reason or another, John wanted to meet his counterpart. It would probably be a lot more fun to talk to a counterpart than a mirror. He then watched as T'Salle sat up straighter and said, "I have come over here to ask your help in overthrowing my husband. Having a Romulan fleet drop in his lap has made him crazed and power hungry...even more so than before. He's acted as a pirate and part-time Resistance member up until this point. It sounded to John like the Vulcan was actually pleading to him. It felt kind of strange partly due to the fact that he had never ever seen a Vulcan pleaded before. She did seem sincere, but John wasn't quite sure if he trusted her yet, but so far what she had said seem to be the truth because John wasn't a pile of particles floating in space right now. "It does look like my options are limited, but forgive me if I don't trust you completely at this moment. What is there to stop you for turning your back on us after I have agreed to help you. You seem like a sincere person enough and I like to believe that what you are saying is true, but I kind of need something a little more concrete before I jeopardize this crew and this ship more than I have to."

John waited patiently for T'Salle to answer. He hoped that she will provide him with something at the very least so that he can so the crew that trusting T'Salle was the right thing to do. If she didn't agree, he had no idea whatsoever to do next. His options were very very limited. He guessed he could hold her hostage, but that will probably not solve anything and it was something that John hated to do.

While McKnight was waiting for an answer from T'Salle, in the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of something red flying pass. John quickly concluded that it was a torpedo. There's no mistake in it because not many things are red that flies.

His guess was then verified by Vyxx over the comm, "Vyxx to McKnight, the Romulan ship just fired a torpedo at us, permission to detonate the weapon and destroy them." At first John wondered how Vyxx's comm was able to get through. He thought that he had instructed the computer to block all incoming communications, but he gave no further thought to it. John crock his eyebrows in a questionable manner at T'Salle and silently cursed Vyxx for saying 'detonate' the weapon to destroy them. T'Salle and her people might have been unaware of it because on the nebula. John tapped his comm badge and said "Negative, Lieutenant. Standby."

He then said to the computer, "Computer, unlock doors." He only did that because if T'Salle was playing him, John will be able to get out of the Ready Room and back onto the bridge. John looked at T'Salle and waited her to answer. He really hoped that she wasn't the one that planned to fire the torpedo because he was beginning to trust her a little.

Looking back at McKnight and remaining as calm as any Vulcan would in this situation, she merely said, "They know. I suggest we go out to your bridge and call my ship. If they even respond, you'll have the proof you seek."

McKnight got up from his chair and replied, "My thoughts exactly." As John and T'Salle walked towards the ready room door, John continued by saying, "But what if they do not respond? If she did answer his question, he would have more pieces to the never ending puzzle. John kept pondering about the odds of this even being a evil plot of T'Salle's. If only she wasn't Vulcan, John would have probably figured her out by now. John waited for her to address his question before stepping out of the ready room door.

{Once T'Salle had addressed his question or not}

Before McKnight and T'Salle walked out of the ready room, John stopped in front of the doorway but far enough so that the door did not open. In a friendly tone John added, "Before we step onto the bridge, I want to get something straight. Since you do not know who is in charge of your ship right now. Either it's someone who is loyal to you or someone who is not, I want you to hail your ship, but assume that you have taken control of this ship. That way, if they believe you they will stop firing at the ship so we won't risk further damage." John took a breath before adding, "and don't try anything that you and I will regret later. I will let my crew know ahead of time and we will do some role playing. If they do not fall for the ploy, " John took a deep breath before speaking again and he let his emotions show how hard it was for him to say, " we have the power to destroy your ship."

John waited for a response from T'Salle before stepping through the ready room doors. He didn't know if T'Salle will agree to what he had said since he practically disagreed with everything he had suggested so far, but it was worth a try.

That way, it will at least stop the other ship from firing at us. There will be two possible outcomes of this. It did, and Robinson turned now to look at Captain Kramer, who was standing before him in Lord Kramer's clothing. Lord Kramer...in the Starfleet uniform...began to get impatient.

"Un-do these...NOW!" Lord Kramer commanded. It was this statement that set Robinson's doubt in for good. Captain Kramer would not be so assertive...nor had he ever yelled at his First Officer, nor any other officer for that matter, at least not in the presence of others.

Robinson thought about this for a moment. The universes were mirrors of each other...but the two Kramers lives did not seem to be parallel. There were many things Robinson could ask that only Captain Kramer would know....but there was no telling what had been done to his Captain over here. Captain Kramer may be drugged to talk..hence the assertive tone...he needed something physical.

In this universe, there was no Starfleet...hence no academy...

Robinson spoke finally. "Captain, I'm sorry, but I won't take those cuffs off until you show me your ankle. You too." Robinson said, pointing at Captain Kramer in Lord Kramer's clothes.

[In the corridor with Rwhen, Lord Kramer, and Robinson]

Kramer almost smiled, Robinson had come up with a stroke of genius...and had apparantly looked at his Captain's personnel file at some point. Of course, that was the job of the XO...

Kramer lifted the leg of his (actually Lord Kramer's) pants to reveal a tatoo of a coiled rattlesnake with the words "Don't Tread On Me" surrounding it. Kramer had gotten it in the academy, several of his classmates had. Lord Kramer would not have a duplicate.

This was obvious based upon Lord Kramer's response. "You want me to do what? Uncuff me, Ex. (Lord Kramer was very clever, picking up on the use of 'Ex' so quickly) Do it now and shoot my counterpart. That is a direct order." Lord Kramer said.

Robinson did pull the trigger on his phaser, but shot Lord Kramer, who collapsed to the floor in a heap.

"Good call, Ex. This is Rwhen...the Romulan intelligence officer we suspected from the onset of this mission. Who is with you?" Kramer asked.

"Devereux and Ens. Hagen. Were rendevousing at the transporter room, two levels up." Robinson said.

"Let's make our way up there, but first lets stash my namesake." Kramer said, indicating Lord Kramer.

Rwhen, who had been silent up to this point, spoke up. "How about over here?" she said, pointing to a sign indicating another cargo bay. She pressed the control to open the door and a room filled with containers was revealed.

Kramer picked up Lord Kramer in a fireman's carry over his shoulder and carried the stunned body into the cargo bay. Towards the back, he set the body down in a heap next to a container.

The stun setting Robinson used must have been light, because Lord Kramer began to mumble and finally opened his eyes. Just as he did, Captain Kramer slugged him across the jaw, knocking Lord Kramer out again.

Smiling in satisfaction and moving back to the corridor, Kramer addressed Rwhen and Robinson. "Ex, pocket your phaser. We come across anyone at all, you're a prisoner. Let's move."

With that, Kramer began up the corridor.

John moved over to take his place at his own console. It has been a while since John had been at his console and he kind of missed it. McKnight tapped a few commands to set up the channel and turned to look at T'Salle. 'Here goes nothing' thought McKnight as he said, "Channel opened, ma'am."

She sensed that sitting in the chair would make some members of the Bridge crew uncomfortable and also thought about how odd it was that this was her husband's counterparts' chair...

"Channel opened, ma'am." McKnight said, interrupting her thoughts.

"This is T'Salle. Firing a torpedo was in direct conflict with the orders I left. Explain yourself." she said in a cool, typically Vulcan tone.

The screen switched on, revealing McKnight's double. He was sitting in the center seat, but stood before he began to speak. "You're making a grave mistake, T'Salle...one that will cost you your life. I know what you're doing over there."

T'Salle interrupted. "That is ridiculous. In fact, I have gotten the commander of the Hercules to agree to my terms. I was about to signal you when you fired."

"You are lying. I have known about your plan for some time now. Lord Kramer knows now, as well. I just signaled his ship. You're lucky that was just a warning shot. McKnight out." With that, the screen went blank.

T'Salle turned back to McKnight. "You said earlier you had the ability to destroy my ship. I suggest you do so immediately. He will not chane is position. I was not aware that my plan had been so easily compromised."

T'Salle internally scolded herself for being so amaturish in her designs...

He seemed have more command characteristics than he did. 'So, it is possible' thought John. McKnight quickly turned his attention back towards the conservation. It seemed that the other crew figured out something about T'Salle. It was probably that she was siding with the Hercules. Then T'Salle asked John to destroy the other ship.

John couldn't believe that she will destroy her own ship. However, by doing so, John seemed to trust her story more than ever. McKnight was also hesitant to destroy his own counterpart because he wanted to ask him some questions, but he saw that he had no other choice.

McKnight turned towards the engineer. In the ready room, John had gotten his message about the shields but didn't pay much attention to it.

"Ensign Whitney, raise shields" said McKnight as he turned to Vyxx and thought 'Vyxx will enjoy this.' He then said, "Lieutenant, detonate the mines. Lieutenant Guerin set a course out of this nebula, full impulse."

John sighed and walked back to the center of the bridge. He waited for his orders to be carried out.

Vyxx listened to the short but direct conversation between T’Salle and her ship. Then to Lt McKnight's orders to raise shields, destroy the Romulan ship, and leave the nebula. He wondered how long it would take the engineer to realize that shields don’t work in a nebula.

Since Vyxx knew the exactly distance the mines were from the Hercules, he composed the order to detonate only those mines a set distance from the Hercules. Basically, Vyxx wanted the entire aft end of the warbird to explode. This would cause three things to happen. First, it would render the ship useless, by cutting the ship in half, secondly, since the Hercules did not have shields, if the bow of the ship did not explode, it would help shield the Hercules from the explosion, and thirdly, maybe the entire crew would not perish.

He quickly sent the order to the mines, to detonate, with a 3 second delay. Vyxx figured the extra distance would help. Of course that is counting on the FCO officer to engage the impulse drive immediately. Vyxx also sent a command to the other mines in the nebula to deactivate, so they would not be attracted to the Hercules as they left the nebula.

Vyxx then turned towards Lt McKnight, “Sir, order sent to the mines. I gave them a 3 second delay, to give us more distance from the ship since shields will not be available until we are clear of the nebula.” Vyxx also explained about only detonating roughly half of the mines and his reasons. Vyxx figured it was a long shot that the entire ship would not explode, but if it did not, the survivors could not give chase or fire any weapons without power.

"I see," began McKnight. His thoughts were then distracted by the image of movement on the viewscreen. John turned to face Vyxx, "Lieutenant, what kind of gases are in this nebula. See if it's compatible with our busscard ramscoops. If it is, we can "back flush" the gas out, somewhat like the Riker maneuver." John then turned to Guerin and said "Lieutenant Guerin, slow to one-quarter impulse. Lieutenant Iza, weapons status."

He turned back to face T'Salle and said, "We can try the same thing with what we did with my counterpart or we can try it another way. What will happen if you told the counterpart Robinson the truth?"

"Logically, telling the truth will do one of two things. He will join us, or he will be against us. Really no different than the situation at hand, but I trust the explosion of my ship will make his suspicious." T'Salle said. She bit her bottom lip slightly as she did when she was thinking.

"Using the manuver you suggested, and with the other ship exploding, do you believe there is any chance we can get away with him thinking this ship perished in the explosion as well? I know there will be no debris...but perhaps it could buy us just a little time..." T'Salle concluded.

"We can't do it from here, It'll have to be engineering. It's not like we can shut down their power systems as they run off an artificial singularity. Best I could do is divert the power some place else, but even this rabble could fix it in no time." conceeded Remy. That left a rather unappealing option open to him. Devereux addressed Kramer. "Captain, If you and the others would care to prepare for transport. When I get to engineering I'll activate the transporter from there. I should then be able to manually compensate for every adjustment this crew can make. That should give you enough time to disable this ship with the Aries' limited armaments. Devereux unclipped his tool box from the front of his environmental suit and began to check it "As long as Ensign Hagen can manage to shoot straight we should be ok" said Devereux with a cheerfulness he didn't feel, and a grin hiding his apprehension. But Devereux knew that as a starfleet officer, he would sometimes have to carry out unpleasent and dangerous missions. It now rested with the Captain.

John listened carefully to what T'Salle suggested. As he listened, he suddenly felt a rumble and John glanced at the viewscreen. Logically, he already knew what the rumble was and there was probably no survivors. John sighed and was then inturrupted by Chad saying, "Weapons are operational. McKnight took in all the information present and quickly thought about it. Hydrogen was extremely flamable and would probably be compatiable will the bussards. John knew from his training at the academy that the magnetic field in the bussard ramscoop were able to attract loose molecules of hydrogen gas. McKnight quickly formulated a plan. He then turned to T'Salle and said, "That might actually work. However, in order for it work for sure, we need to know the exact location of the other ship before releasing the gas. We don't want to fly directly into their laps. Is it safe to assume that you know the coordinates of the other ship and that they have not moved since?"

John waited for her to answer before putting his plan into action. The first step they needed to do was to get out of the nebula in some way. Once they were out, John had another plan in mind that would hopefully get the captain and the others back in one piece.
